Developer Fees

Developer Fees

Developer fees are state-authorized fees charged on new residential and commercial/industrial construction to help school districts address the impact of growth on school facilities. As new homes and businesses are built, student enrollment may increase, creating the need for additional classrooms, facilities, and infrastructure. Developer fees help ensure that school districts have the resources needed to maintain safe, adequate learning environments for current and future students.

On January 24, 2024, the State Allocation Board approved an increase to the maximum Level 1 developer fees allowed under Education Code Section 17620. The Paso Robles Joint Unified School District Board of Trustees subsequently adopted Resolution 25-19 on March 25, 2025, updating the statutory school fees for new development within the district.

Effective June 1, 2025, the updated fees are:

  • Residential Construction: $5.17  per square foot

  • Commercial/Industrial Construction: $0.84 per square foot

    • Residential Construction
$5.17 per square foot of assessable space of new residential construction or additions of 500 square feet or more. No developer fees are due if the construction addition is 499 square feet or less
